Retrieve emails from other providers - Set up POP3 collection service
The POP3 collection service automatically retrieves e-mails from external mailboxes, e.g. at GMX, Gmail, T-Online, Web.de, Yahoo or Outlook.com, and transfers them to your eclipso Mail Europe inbox. This way, all your e-mails are in one central place and you don't need to log in to multiple providers.
Tip: If your previous e-mail provider offers an e-mail forwarding or redirect, this is often the simpler alternative. New e-mails are then automatically forwarded from your old mailbox to your eclipso address, without eclipso needing to actively collect them. You can find setup instructions in the settings of your previous provider.
What is the POP3 collection service and how does it work?
The POP3 collection service regularly connects to an external mailbox and automatically transfers e-mails found there to your eclipso inbox. To set it up, you need the POP3 access credentials (server name, username, password) of the external e-mail account. You can find these in the settings of your previous provider.
Please note: For the POP3 retrieval to work, POP3 access must be enabled at the external provider. Some providers (e.g. Gmail) have this disabled by default and it must be activated first.
How to set up the POP3 collection service:
- Log in to your eclipso Mail Europe account.
- Open the menu Settings > E-Mail | Collection Service.
- Click the Add Account button.
- Enter the POP3 access data of the external account:
- POP3 Server: The server name of the external provider, e.g. pop.gmail.com or pop.gmx.net
- Port: Usually 110 (without SSL) or 995 (with SSL, recommended)
- SSL: Enable SSL for a secure, encrypted connection (recommended)
- Username: Your full e-mail address at the external provider
- Password: Your password at the external provider
- Optional: Under Target folder, select which folder in your eclipso mailbox the collected e-mails should be sorted into (default: Inbox).
- Optional: Activate Keep mails on server if you want the e-mails to remain stored at the external provider as well.
- Confirm your entry with OK.
The collection service will now run automatically in the background and transfer new e-mails from the external mailbox to your eclipso inbox.
Which POP3 access data do I need?
You can find the POP3 access data in the settings of your previous e-mail provider. Here is an overview of the most common providers:
| Provider | POP3 Server | Port (SSL) |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail | pop.gmail.com | 995 |
| GMX | pop.gmx.net | 995 |
| Web.de | pop3.web.de | 995 |
| T-Online | popmail.t-online.de | 995 |
| Outlook.com / Hotmail | pop3.live.com | 995 |
| Yahoo Mail | pop.mail.yahoo.com | 995 |
For Google Gmail, you must first enable POP3 access in the Gmail settings under "Forwarding and POP/IMAP". For Yahoo Mail, an app-specific password is required.Alternative: Set up e-mail forwarding at your previous provider
If you do not want to use the POP3 collection service, or if your previous provider does not offer POP3 access, you can alternatively set up automatic e-mail forwarding. Every newly incoming e-mail at the old provider is then immediately forwarded to your eclipso address.
Advantages of forwarding compared to the POP3 collection service:
- E-mails arrive in your eclipso inbox with virtually no delay
- No access credentials at the external provider required
- Simple setup directly in your old e-mail account
The setup of forwarding varies depending on the provider. Search in the settings of your previous provider for terms like "Forwarding", "Redirect" or "Auto-Forward" and enter your eclipso e-mail address as the forwarding destination.
How can I edit or delete a POP3 account?
- Edit account: Open Settings > E-Mail | Collection Service. In the overview, click the edit icon (pencil icon) next to the desired account.
- Delete account: Click the delete icon (trash icon) next to the desired account in the overview. Deletion is permanent.
- Pause retrieval: In the account settings, you can temporarily disable retrieval via the "Paused" option, without having to delete the account.
